"Learning how to learn is life’s most important skill."

~Michael Gelb and Tony Buzan

OUR GOAL...

...Our goal at Waterville Central School is to provide a supportive academic and social atmosphere where every child has the opportunity to achieve to their highest potential. We provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills they need to pursue meaningful careers, make informed decisions, live independently, and contribute to society in a positive way.

Early adolescence brings many changes. These include many social and educational changes. School brings many new teachers, new classes, new challenges, higher level and more abstract "what if" thinking is required. Peers are now very important. For students with a learning disability both social and educational settings can be terrifying. As a parent try to be aware of the difficulties kids experience during this transition. Any significant change in their normal routine can create angst and anxiety. The best way to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible is to prepare the child for the situation and prepare the situation for your child. You can help the school and your child by participating in the IEP process and by assisting in your child's educational planning. It is equally important to talk with your child about school; answer questions; set up a study area at home and have a consistent study time set aside.
